more mobility transport options for individuals and rideshares

All of the innovative ideas identified in the transportation policy document sound great but will take awhile. In the meantime, work on the progress that has been started to increase mobility transport, add to the fleet of bicycles and other motor/electric scooter and create a more responsive local transportation system that prioritizes individuals travelling to work.

One way that I think the disability trip and experience will be enhanced by all modes of transportation is if one follows the ADA and applicable transportation laws that should be enforced and enforceable by all communities. Sidewalks, intersections, collaboration

For people who are visually impaired, knowing if there is a sidewalk, or better yet, having a sidewalk on both sides of the street, is very important. COnsistent, predictable and locatable pedestrian call buttons

Pedestrian call buttons for accessible and other pedestrian signals must be located in readily accessible and easy to find locations. If pedestrians must leave the straight line of travel to locate and activate a call signal they may lose their orientation to a straight line of travel. Most State DOTs and local road managers, are unaware of the correct use of pedestrian accessible barricades that are included in MUTCD. In addition to building and maintaining more accessible pedestrian infrastructure, consideration ought to be given to how land use policy promotes accessible communities by making active modes of transportation and transit more attractive and cost effective.
