Magnetic Levitation Technology

See this article about a vision to install a pod system that uses magnetic levitation technology in Clearwater, Florida: https://www.tampabay.com/news/transportation/masstransit/Traffic-solution-in-the-sky-or-just-pie-in-the-sky-_164159540/. My question when I first read about this idea is, will the pods be accessible to people with mobility disabilities who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices? Would this be... more »

Advantage Ride Pilot In Florida

Check out this article about the Advantage Ride pilot in Florida, which provided free rides for individuals on Florida's I/DD Medicaid waiver AND I/DD Medicaid waiver waiting list: https://www.fsacentral.org/single-post/2019/03/01/Transportation-Pilot-Provides-Free-Rides-Across-County-Lines! I find this pilot so innovative because it provided free rides across county lines for people receiving I/DD services and on the... more »

Not enough or viable resources

I've been riding Shared Ride Services (SRS) in multiple states for 20 years. It has not been a satisfying or easy "ride". Long delays, missed appointments, abandoned at my destination and kicked off the service for reasons beyond my control are just some of the few nightmares I've had to deal with. I've also used trollys, trains, buses and the aforementioned SRS. All of them required patience, determination and taking... more »

Volunteer Driver Program - Tallahassee Florida

We have a volunteer driver program through Elder Care Services that serves seniors 60 and over. The drivers drive their own vehicles, so we cannot service clients who need to be transferred or use a lift during their transportation. We provide rides to the doctors, grocery store and other essential services. We do not charge the clients for the service. We help about 20 to 30 unique individuals per month. We have... more »

Get rid of wheelchair lifts

I'd love to see the wheelchair lifts go away especially ones that are at the back of the bus. Sitting rear of the axle makes it very hard to communicate with the driver and a hold on. Every time I get off the bus I'm sitting in The way way back I feel like I ran a marathon. There's not even enough room for the driver to clip us down because their seats right up against them and their neverfull. So I'm not only do you... more »

Broken Equipment

Where to begin? There are so many issues with this. First and foremost is the maintenance of equipment designed to help disabled passengers to board and exit the vehicle. Too many times they are not working well or at all. I have a service dog and using lifts to access vehicles was often metal and slippery when it was dry. When wet, it was a disaster. Elevators located at the stations that have them are also an issue... more »

Cabulance is a company in Yakima Washington

Email them for their input. By establishing similar opportunities for both unemployed persons and persons with mobility challenges you can solve these issues in rural places. Not all consumers live in urban areas. The last time I flew from Dulles to Seattle I noticed how most of the county appeared to be rural. If you seldom leave the beltway you may still believe in your self driving cars as an answer to your needs.... more »

Enforce the ADA

Most lodging facilities do NOT have accessible vans or contracts with companies to provide accessible rides offered to other guests. This violates the ADA yet it continues everywhere and creates a great disparity in economics and social interaction at conferences, meetings and general stays. There needs to be a hotline in each state for registering complaints until this inequality is rectified.

Service dog area

On most transit vehicles there is inadequate room for a large service animal to lie down. Having them sit up the entire trip is difficult as the vehicles do not operate smoothly and have frequent stops and start ups jostling the dog. The flooring is often slippery which adds to the problem of maintaining the dog's balance and avoiding joint injuries. When the vehicle is crowded, trying to keep one's dog from being hit... more »

Next time you on the BART

It's embarrassing to be writing from a state that left a 30 MPH corner in a high speed track. But not everyone gets to enjoy commutting by rail. Or, in place of sending persons with physical restrictions out into traffic, build a workplace that caters to the person's ability to be an operator, a reservations specialist, a 911 operator... We had a place near Seattle Washington called RCH Institute. RCH employed persons... more »
