Transit relies on extensive information that has been difficult to make efficiently available to individuals with impaired vision or other disabilities. Yet, the Americans with Disabilities Act requires transit providers to ensure that passengers can access and use their systems. Technologies that use automated systems and on-demand remote assistance are now available to provide real-time access to information like location of bus-stops, stations, vehicle identification schedule information and other wayfinding information critical for independent use of transit. ?How will DOT (along with other federal agencies) encourage the deployment of these technologies to meet this previously unmet need?
