It Starts with Accessible Fare Vending Machines

Functioning, well maintained and equitable quantities accessible vending machines should include both braille and auditory components. They should be easy to locate and should be accessible for a person with a visual impairment to be able to complete the process of purchasing a fare card with the assistance of another person. Additionally, if the card needs to be activated to collect a fare the location of this machine should be placed in an area with other landmarks rather than in the middle of the platform where landmarks and clues are not present. Consideration for accessible, equitable design should be at the forefront of creating transportation options that are fully accessible for all users.
