Accessibility for Passengers with Sensory or Cognitive Disabilities

How people with sight loss perceive autonomous vehicles

In 2018, The CNIB Foundation undertook research into how AV is perceived by people with sight loss. This small study looked at the promise of AV along how those for whom the technology would benefit perceive the promise.

Our research, while not surprising, revealed that early adopters of emerging technology would likely be amongst those who would seek out AV when it became afordible and accessible.

At the same time, our research discovered very little understanding existed amongst designers and industry as to the opportunities which remain unrealized through current deployment of AV technology.

The report had 7 recommendations, one of which was to adopt user testing early on and to continue with testing throughout the entire life cycle of development.

The report is freely available and can be found at www.cnib.ca and searching for autonomous vehicles.
